Fees

Fees you can follow, month by month.

Typically, our fee structure depends on the nature of the case or matter, its present status and its expected course. Here is how our standard arrangement works.

The billing cycle

  1. Stage 1

    A retainer, held in trust

Our standard practice involves a retainer held in our trust account, known as an IOLTA account. Matters in litigation, or expected to involve litigation, require a larger retainer than assignments that are more task oriented or of shorter duration.

  2. Stage 2

    Hourly work, billed monthly

We bill hourly for the firm’s professionals, on a monthly basis.

  3. Stage 3

    Applied, or invoiced

At the end of each billing cycle, depending on your needs and our agreement, we may transfer funds from your retainer balance for the prior month’s work and ask that the retainer be replenished, or preserve the retainer and invoice you for prompt payment.

  4. Stage 4

    Unapplied funds, refunded

Unless otherwise agreed, at the conclusion of our representation and after all fees and expenses have been satisfied, any unapplied retainer funds in our trust account are refunded to you.

Other arrangements

Under very specific circumstances, the firm also offers contingent, flat fee and alternative or hybrid billing arrangements. Ask us whether your matter qualifies.
